Finding Peace
Finding Peace
What is peace? Is “peace” freedom from troubles? Do your troubles pertain to something in your past?
Is “peace” freedom from pressures? Are pressures coming from possible outcomes in your future?
Is “peace” freedom from worries? Do your worries bog you down or wear you out? Are you feeling stressed?
Is “peace” freedom from demands from others? Is this causing anger inside you? Do you feel like you’re being taken advantage of?
Troubles, pressures, worries, demands all have one thing in common. They are magnified by your mind. The more you think about these issues, the more they will build and the more miserable you will feel.
Right now take a couple of deep, slow breaths. Imagine your lungs, like plastic bags, inflating and deflating.
Now, slowly, look around. View everything around you. Take your time. Observe something you haven’t noticed lately.
Now, listen to sounds around you. Detect the faintest sound. Distinguish one sound from another.
Now, repeat the process one more time.
What is peace? It is realizing that troubles, pressures, worries, demands are all stories the mind wants to build and hang on to.
